Pure plant-based cheese alternatives from Willicroft

Few other cities in Europe have a cheese tradition that’s as rich as that of Amsterdam. So it comes as no surprise that it’s here of all places that great strides are being made in making unadulterated cheese indulgence accessible to vegan cheese lovers too. With its purely plant-based cheese alternatives, Willicroft’s commitment is as much to the environment as it is to achieving the best cheese taste. The recent start-up has a rich agricultural heritage to look back on. This makes Willicroft a prime example of how generational change and shifts in consciousness can go hand in hand.

Vegan cheese alternatives that are appetizing – both literally and visually!

For founder Brad Vanstone, the motto “Planet first” is primarily about ensuring the preservation, regeneration, and care of the earth across all company practices. In founding Willicroft in 2018, Brad went his own way – a move away from dairy cattle farming towards plant-based products – with a view to creating a company that does good for the earth rather than simply doing less damage. The results are plain to see and, more importantly, you can taste them too! A vegan fondue in the style of a hearty cheese? Not a problem. Willicroft even has hard grating cheese alternatives for adding to salads, pasta, and casseroles. So if you’re avoiding the cheese counter but don’t want to miss out on anything in terms of taste, you can now indulge to your heart’s and cheese cravings‘ content online.

Traditional know-how and modern techniques

“Willicroft” is the name of the farm that Brad’s grandparents started in 1957 with twelve cows and a tractor. Green pastures and a healthy life – but “even the happiest cows still have a negative impact on the environment and endanger our planet for future generations,” says Brad, explaining what motivated this new beginning.

When Brad started to follow a plant-based diet, he discovered that while the quality of meat and dairy substitute products made the transition very easy, there was still a lack of high-quality substitute products available for cheese. And so, a new Willicroft project was born: plant-based cheese alternatives based on locally grown beans that would satisfy die-hard cheese connoisseurs and fans just as it would vegans. Try Willicroft as soon as you can. We recommend starting with the Greek White, the Young Dutch or the Italian Aged. Impressed? We definitely are!
